What To Do?

What to do is the question Mark Zuckerberg, creator of social giant Facebook, is asking himself. If he were to make the decision to sell the 2nd most popular social-networking website, he could become the next rich-kid of Silicon Valley. The struggle that Zuckerberg is facing is the fact that he would rather build the website and better his creation, instead of sell it, even though it is worth around 1 Billion dollars. If it were my company and I truly loved facebook and what I had created, I would stick with it, because I bet the offer would only get bigger, and when the price was right, I would sell, but until then…I would continue to do my thing.

If its worth one billion dollars, i would sell it personally. I understand that one would want to stick with their creation as long as possible, but really, what is the real difference between 1 and 5 billion...

I am with Ryan, once its over the amount I need to live the rest of my life comfortably, it doesn't matter too much to me. Still, if i really took pride in my creation and wanted to see it grow and become something greater, I imagine I would stick with it.

Well, if you look at it in a different way, there still is a lot of money to be made from making Facebook "greater" with advertising and things of that nature. I'm not sure if this amount would even come close to the 1 billion dollars being offered to Zuckerberg right now, but it would certainly be substantial. It really comes down to how he feels about what he has created. If he honestly believes in his creation and wants to stick around and make it better and doesn't really care about how much money he makes, then it's one thing. But if he's just holding out so he can make more than 1 billion, I don't feel bad for him at all.

Besides, a company wouldn't invest 1 billion dollars in a website if they didn't think they could at least make it back or make a lot more than 1 billion dollars off of it. It will be interesting to see what happens.

While I agree with everyone, you must also look at it from the point of view of all the users of Facebook. How would they react to any change incurred by the selling of the site? What would happen? It is a scary concept because I love Facebook for what it is now (less the mini-feed).

Honestly, its his creation and therefore he has the right to do as he pleases with it. He decided to introduce the mini-feed, a move which many people got angry over, but it is still there. If he wants to sell Facebook and make a billion dollars, then hooray for him. He found a billion dollar idea to sell.

One billion is an awful lot of money, but you can't forget that Mark is now a very powerful business leader also. No company has a hundred million followers - not one in the world.
